Luciano Cantone is author of more than 70 scientific papers. Train dynamics and evaluation of safe train operations are the main topics of his research activity. He is also currently Teacher of “Reliability and Safety of Machines” and “Design of Terrestrial Vehicles”.
His research on train dynamics has led to a calculation software named TrainDy, which has been UIC certified in January 2009 against more than 30 experimental tests provided by DB AG, SNCF and TRENITALIA and now is considered as a standard for the calculation of Longitudinal Train Dynamics of freight trains. He has been the scientific coordinator for the University of Rome Tor Vergata in FP7 MARATHON.
He has been coordinator of the Shift2Rail Open Call Project named Marathon2Operation (M2O, https://marathon2operation.eu) to study the safety of long freight trains with up to 4 traction units and 1500 m length in radio communication.
